Pondside Paradise
Lazing in hammock strung pond-side
thoughts spin dandelion fluff into a
meringue kiss drifting on warm breeze as
kingfishers and dragonflies flit and skimmer
over pond. An above water ballet-like scrimmage as
lurking great blue heron tends lupin goalposts.
Bumble bees buzz and whir as
nearby river otters frolic, disrupting
the smooth, calm, and glass-like surface
of this secluded pond paradise.
My friends daughters mimic the otters
in their playful glee, towheaded angels
prancing and waving their dandelion wands
in bright homespun summer dresses.
There’s a depth to this magical scene
that doesn’t escape partially-closed eyes.
Their faerie-like dance enchants and mesmerizes
reawakening a joy, a harmony, and gratitude
that reflects a life well-lived.
