They’ve Got You On A String
( Chained Rhyme )
spellbound in a trance, rapt askance
dance circumstance minus legwork
network spies with TV eyes
pry open sacred space of privacy
piracy reconfigured as techno shock troops
stoop to new lows of home invasion
persuasion evasion NOT a channel option
adoption of auctioneer rhetoric screams glitz
hypocrites, with know-it-all kits, proclaim
game show genies with beanstalk flair
square-screened and preened, glossed
frothed in feeding frenzy of ego envy
curvy and scurvy divvy up pie in the sky
gratify lullaby, operators standing by, ready
Freddy, freewheeling emissary, at the wheel
eel spiel conceals flawed ideals, reveals
surreal puppeteer, whose got you
glued and subdued on a string

@ dVerse Poet’s Pub
has asked us
to write a poem from the perspective of one of the medias, much like the ‘Television’ poem, or focus on how mass media affects us, or what your thoughts are one it. You can choose to just include one of the medias in your poem, or choose a quote from one of them, a commercial, a movie, a book, a newspaper.

dang…we dance lik marionettes on the strings….really cool chain rhyme…and i like too that you did some internal rhyme as wel…it really makes this rip off the tongue…they have us just where they want us…indeed…

This is really good. I love the flow.

Really fun flow.
The theme on d’Verse Poets has been “Media” and most are making fun of it.
But I wonder how many are also avid consumers — everyone seems to speak with authority as they criticize. Sort of like the heroine addict giving their testimony at a revival or a support group !
Jan 27, 2013 @ 16:17:05
Yes, we probably are all addicts, but you describe the intermix between commercialism and all the rest of it very well. k.

“Just like the Pied Piper
led rats through the streets
We sway like marionettes,
swaying to the symphony
of destruction.” (D.Mustaine 1992)
I love the sound of this poem – the chain and internal rhyme make it a natural performance piece.

we def. have to be careful to not become marionettes of the mass media..think it happens all too easily…
Jan 29, 2013 @ 18:28:24
Love the flow and rhythm in this!
