FormForAll: On Ghazals and the Ghazal Sonnet

What Never Lies ?

( A Ghazal Sonnet )

if never asked questions, one never lies

it’s the color of blood that never lies

✧✦✧

sailor’s hopes rescued through fog weary skies

Fresnel lensed lighthouse light that never lies

hypocrite’s poisoned words spat, he denies ?

Blarney stone’s flattering chat never lies ?

burrowed in flesh, butterfat in disguise ?

all-seeing mirror says fat never lies

***

bet me a nickel, I’ll raise you two lies

mama’s boy scandalized brat never lies ?

how death is answered, when we say goodbyes

carved in stone legacy that never lies

✧✦✧

making the best of things, some turn blind eyes

for when truth tolls, a Bell, that never lies

There are some really strong lines in this poem – made me stop and think a lot, which is a good thing in my view.

I’m impressed, not only did you accomplish this within the constraints of the ghazal format, you even threw in an extra challenge with rhymes in the couplets! Applause is due!

Randy – super cleverly done! I love how you use your name, but also just a mordant wit there – works well with the Ghazal. Thanks. k.
