Ceiling Fan Witness
frenetic mutterings cling to tendrils of dementia
barely audible, some obscure last request
time inserting itself, between sharp gasps of breath
and slow barrages of verbal machinations
a failing mechanism, worn, overworked
faintly ticking away, like a battery soon to expire
hanging by thread, of some cosmic miracle
overshadowed by slow orbit, of whirling fan
staring at revolving blades …. hypnotized
by almost silent efficiency, of whipped air
staring, ..staring, …staring ….
… blades starting to spin backwards
backwards, thoughts spinning backwards
white flat-bladed oar-shaped paddles reflecting
steady pulse of dancing shadows
walls lacquered in refracted light
l i f e …spinning backwards,….backwards,
b a c k p e d a l l i n g……backwards,
s w a l l o w i n g …i t s e l f

Oh those ceiling fans… they do have a life of their own, and some so precariously so hanging as you say hanging by a thread, unique perspective that’s for sure!

i like the sense of how the failing mechanism is still tantalizing
i also like the tendrils in the beginning
